Writer's pictureLizzie, In Your Own Words

A poem on a random Wednesday

For one of your gorgeous friends, maybe.

That's me looking at the only dog I'll ever love.

I like a challenge. Jamie gave me one a couple of days ago.

"Hi", he began, via the form on my contact page. "It's my partner's birthday in two days. Is that enough time for a personal poem?"

The answer to that question is, "no, new client, that's not enough time"...but I wasn't feeling like that. It's winter, you know, I'm nesting - and I fancied writing a love poem. Delicious.

But In Your Own Words' poems legitimately take longer than two days to write! It's because I really ask you questions, I honestly consider the answers, and I draft and redraft to get it write (HA I punned by accident: keeping that). Rome wasn't built, etc. The poem you'll get from In Your Own Words will be one you'll want to frame for your home, read to every guest, and remember on each anniversary. To quote Zoe, a client who got a bespoke blessing for her son's christening, "That poem was truly one of the best moments of my life so far. I mean that."

BUT (my English teacher Mrs Shepherd told me never to start a sentence with "but" and now I've done it twice, sorry), not everyone wants a poem to keep forever! For your wedding, or your son's christening: absolutely. But for your mate's 36th birthday? As a Christmas present for your mum? I was getting enquiries about these events and realising that you don't just want to celebrate the big things. You want to make people feel special every year, or just on a Wednesday. And, if you're honest, you'd like a pricing structure to match that vibe.

I hear you. Introducing...The Wednesday Poem.

Wednesday Poems give the feels. They are lightyears more than a midweek pick up; they are I Love You, Thank You, I Want You To Feel Special! They are entirely unique, obviously, because every poem I write is - I'll never reuse a structure, boring - and always personal to their recipient(s), based on what you tell me about them. But because I'll get less information from you and I'll write them more quickly, they'll be shorter and a little more generalised.

I'll say it this way: the poems In Your Own Words is built on (still my favourites to write), feel like, "This IS ME/US! I will keep this FOREVER." By contrast, The Wednesday Poem feels like, "This is a delight! I want to tell a bunch of people about this! Best gift ever! How did you do it?!"

What do you think? Fancy treating your Mum this Christmas (...or sooner)?

If you want to know whether a Wednesday Poem could be write (that time I did it on purpose) for you, just ask!
